referring physician access

"How do I integrate referring physicians into my OpenMed solution, using the Web?"

" We have OpenMed for Radiology and it's great. However, now they are used to seeing the power of the Web-based tools, we have requests from referring physicians in primary care to have additional non-Radiology images and reports, such as Dermatology, Histology and Endoscopy, delivered to their desktop, so they can provide enhanced medical services to their patients. Can we fulfill their needs, using our existing OpenMed infrastructure?"

Referral physician solution

Absolutely! The scalability of the OpenMed suite allows for the incremental addition of any image dependent specialty into the infrastructure. Typically, this would involve either or both of two situations: whether the images are DICOM or not. With DICOM images, from an Ultrasound for example, OpenMed can accept those images directly into OpenMed Manager, as if it were a CR, CT or MRI. With non-DICOM images such as JPEGs from a digital camera, Endoscope, microscope or ophthalmic camera, OpenMed receives these through an OpenMed Technologies Modality Server or PC-based OpenMed Capture, where the patient details are entered and the image is captured into the Patient Folder. Even voice notes can be entered in the Patient Folder at the OpenMed Capture station!

This image is then submitted to OpenMed Manager for the routing rules to the Web server and security to be applied.

Now the Radiology and non-Radiology images and reports are contained within a single Patient Folder - historical and new information is in a single point of access for the clinician, where he or she wants it - on their desktop PC or Laptop or Workstation in their office or department.
